MUSKEGON, Mich., -- Like most people, twin brothers Gavin and Kamden Cross have been struck by the recent headlines involving police and violence. And they decided they wanted to do something to say "thank you" to those who protect and serve the community.

"The boys asked questions," their mother Jenny Cross wrote in a post online. "They asked, 'why would anybody want to hurt or kill someone when there are so many people like their daddy who fought so hard to live?' They also didn't understand why anyone would want to hurt a police officer."

The 8-year-old twins and their mother were featured on FOX 17 in 2013 for their efforts to help other families fighting cancer, after losing their dad, 34-year-old Andy Cross to the disease in December 2012. The effort, dubbed "Whatever it Takes", is still active in helping others in West Michigan.

"They then asked me: 'Mom what can we do, how can we help?'" Cross went on to explain in her Facebook post. "They said that those in uniform - no matter the uniform - they wanted to do something for [them], because they know the smallest gesture can lead to a smile on somebody else... And that's when Kamden said, 'well, everybody loves treats.' And we all started baking."

Cross added that the boys would also like to make some more sweets for different fire departments and EMTs in the future.
