WEST MICHIGAN- The first thing you’ll undoubtedly notice when you walk out the door this morning is that it’s incredibly hot and humid. This is slightly different from yesterday, although the afternoon was like that for a lot of people after the morning rain.
A warm front moving through the area is bringing warm, humid air and the sunshine only makes it feel worse. This is setting the stage for unstable conditions and potentially severe weather later on this afternoon.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop later on this afternoon. Most of them won’t be severe, but they will dump heavy rains and flash frequent lightning. There is a possibility we’ll see an isolated severe storm develop.
The timeline for these storms to develop will most likely occur after 2 PM, but an isolated storm developing around lunchtime isn’t out of the question. They’ll be more numerous in the afternoon, however.
As I mentioned, most storms won’t be severe, but some gusty winds are possible. 40-60 mph winds would be the strongest we’d see. Small hail is also possible as well, but localized flooding is probably the biggest threat as the atmosphere is incredibly soupy.
