TROON, Scotland (AP) — Phil Mickelson set the course record at Royal Troon and equaled the low score at a major with a bogey-free 8-under 63 in the opening round of the British Open. The 2013 champ had a 16-foot birdie putt for a 62 on the final hole, but the ball caught the edge of the cup and rimmed out.
