WALKER, Mich. — The Walker Fire Department battled a blaze that extensively damaged a house on the city’s southwest side Sunday.
Firefighters told FOX 17 the house was “a major loss.”
The fire was reported at 8:36 a.m. Sunday at 3692 Deena Drive SW. The homeowners were preparing to leave for church when they noticed flames in the home’s lower level and ran outside.
Firefighters said the fire was already through the roof when they arrived, and that the flames spread quickly.
Two pet cats are believed to have died in the blaze.
The fire destroyed three-fourths of the house. Only the garage appeared to be undamaged.
The homeowners told FOX 17 they have relatives residing in the area to stay with for the time being.
The Walker Police Department assisted the Walker Fire Department at the scene.
