The sequence of events began early Tuesday at 3 a.m. when Battle Creek officers were sent to the area of Wren Street and Maple Grove Avenue. A woman there said she had gotten into an argument with a man she was dating when he hit her and threatened her with a gun.

When officers went to the man’s apartment, he answered the door holding a gun and slammed the door. Officers called in backup and waiting out the suspect during a short standoff. The man was finally arrested without further incident.

Using a search warrant, police found a handgun in the man’s apartment, so the man faces assault and weapons charges.

The woman was treated for facial injuries and released.
