Getting a fancy wardrobe for school just isn't an option for some local kids, but thanks to First Day Shoe Fund kids can have brand new shoes on their feet.

First Day Shoe Fund is a non-profit organization based in Kalamazoo whose mission is to provide new athletic shoes to kids from low-income families from pre-k through 5th grade.

On August 9, they will be at Maple Street Magnet Middle School giving out pairs of shoes to kids in the community. The community distribution event will go from 2:30-8 p.m.

Your child will qualify for a free pair of athletic shoes if they attend Kalamazoo Public Schools, are in pre-k to 5th grade, and qualify for free or reduced-price lunch at school. Your child must be present to be fitted for shoes.

Along with shoe distribution, new this year there will be a mini resource fair with nearly 20 local non-profits and service agencies.

First Day Shoe Fund is always accepting donations of new, never-worn athletic sneakers for children's sizes little 11 up through adult 10 and 11s. They're also fundraising year round to purchase shoes for children in need.
