SANDUSKY, Ohio – Cedar Point is closing down one of its longest-running rides this fall.

The amusement park announced on its website and social media that the Mean Streak “gets the axe” on September 16.  A video on their Facebook page shows a “mountain man” taking whacks at the wooden roller coaster with an axe.

The park says that the Mean Streak at one time was the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in the world.  The post says that the Mean Streak is coming down for a future development in FrontierTown, but isn’t going into details at this time.

The coaster will be open during park hours through the fall and then on September 16, which is the opening night of “HalloWeekends” at the park, there will be a special “last rites” for the ride, which will include a procession from FrontierTown to the Dead Rides Cemetery.
