COOPERSVILLE, Mich. — Grassfields Cheese is recalling roughly 20,000 pounds of organic cheeses due to possible E. coli contamination.
The recall involves “all types and sizes of organic cheeses” manufactured between Dec. 1, 2015 through June 1, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development announced Wednesday.
The affected products include Gouda, Onion ‘n Garlic, Country Dill, Leyden, Edam, Lamon Cheddar, Chili Cheese, Fait Fras, Polkton Corners and Crofters, according to a release.
Seven people reported illness between March and July, the state Department of Agriculture said in a release. Shiga toxin-producing E. coli was found in a sample of Grassfields cheese that was collected by state food and dairy inspectors during an investigation into the illnesses.
The cheeses were sold at the company’s store at 14238 60th Ave. in Coopersville as well as to wholesale and retail customers and through the Grassfields website.
