DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit man who has lived at the same house for more than 50 years says mail isn’t being delivered because his porch doesn’t have a rail.
Rick Maruszczak tells WJBK-TV that he’s been forced to pick up his mail at a post office for the last three months. He says he’s been told that he needs a rail because there are four steps leading to the porch.
In a statement, the U.S. Postal Service says safety is a priority and it will stop delivery if there’s a “possible hazard.”
Maruszczak says a rail would cost $300 to $400 to install. He laments that the Postal Service promises to deliver mail through rain or snow but not if there’s four steps and no rail.
