Pizza delivery employee robbed, shots fired at witness

HOLLAND, Mich. — A suspect was arrested after the armed robbery of a pizza delivery employee and gunshots being fired at a witness early Saturday morning.

At 12:27 a.m. Saturday, Holland Department of Public Safety officers responded to a report of an armed robbery of a Domino’s Pizza delivery employee in the Meadow Lanes complex in the  300 block of Norcrest.  After the employee made a delivery, a suspect approached from behind and robbed the employee with a handgun, obtaining an undisclosed amount of money.

Descriptions of both the suspect and a vehicle were given to officers.

At approximately the same time as this, officers also were dispatched to a shots fired call in the 800 block of Myrtle.  The investigation revealed that an uninvolved witness noticed the suspect vehicle driving recklessly when it left the scene of the robbery, followed the vehicle and called 9-1-1.  The suspect vehicle was followed to the 800 block of Myrtle, where the vehicle stopped, the witness reported that the suspect got out of the vehicle, fired two gunshots at him and then fled on foot.

Officers found the 28-year-old suspect on foot in the area and took him into custody without further incident.

The area was searched by officers and a Holland Police K9 unit for any other suspects and evidence.  A gun was located in the area where the suspect had fled on foot and no other suspects were believed to be present.

Holland Police were asssited by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police and Saugatuck Police Department.
