East Grand Rapids officer on leave after off-duty crash

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – An East Grand Rapids Public Safety Officer is on administrative leave after a crash while off duty last week.

According to East Grand Rapids Chief Mark Herald, Officer Nicholas Schwein was off duty on August 4th when he is suspected of being involved in a crash in Cannon Township.

Schwein was arraigned Monday morning in 63rd District Court on charges of reckless driving and failing to stop at the scene of a property damage accident.  He was released on a $100 bond.

Herald says that Schwein is on paid leave while criminal proceedings are being held.  Schwein is a 10-year veteran with East Grand Rapids.
