MUSKEGON, Mich. - After chasing her boyfriend with a knife through an apartment complex, a 15-year-old girl was shot in the leg by police Friday afternoon.

The incident happened in the 1800 block of Oak Street near Carriage at the Carriage House Apartments.

Muskegon Police say they responded to a call of a domestic situation and when the first officer arrived, he found a 16-year-old boy running from his 15-year-old girlfriend as she chased him with a knife according to Jeff Louis, Director of Public Safety.

"A gentleman exited the house at high speeds," Louis said." He was running and immediately behind was a female who allegedly had some knives in her hand."

The boyfriend, Deyonte Johnson, told Fox 17 despite the chaotic circumstances, police shouldn't have shot his girlfriend, Yakyria Mitchell.

"She was carrying a knife but I know she wasn't going to do nothing with it," said Deyonte. "She was just playing tough with me."

Mitchell was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Michigan State Police have taken over the investigation and the Muskegon officer has been automatically placed on leave as the investigation continues.

No one else was injured.

She “wasn’t going to do nothing” with the knife? If that’s the case, why was he running from her? The cop had no idea what she was going to do with a deadly weapon, and shooting her where he did was not only justified, he may have saved her from a more serious charge.

Sorry little boy, but your little kiddie girlfriend could have killed you with her little not so toy knife she was chasing you with. Wake up, take some responsibility and get away from this trash. Funny you and your so called daddy want to blame the police. Look real hard in the mirror and blame who you should, yourself, not law enforcement. I’m sure the video cam will tell us exactly what we need to know, but by that time, the media will have given up on this story, and your lies!

People want to talk about Racism? The Media does a big part in keeping to add fuel to it every time they have the chance. When I seend this Story on Fox 17 they kept saying 15 year old black girl shot by White Police officer! To me there in no place fot this type of Journalism in writing or telling the News.It is plain and simple Officers called to a call of young girl trying to kill her 15 year old boyfriend When officers arrived the witnessed a young female chasing a young male with knife and scissors .Officers commanded her to drop weapons where she refused and continued chasing the young man.Officers were then forced to pull weapons and shot at said female. Fox 17 is it to hard to try to cut down on the race issues when this clearly had nothing todo with Race. Oh thats right the Story would then not draw to much attention but add the race card and you get more people interested in the Story.SHAME ON YOU !
