BELDING, Mich. (AP) — A 2,000-pound block of black granite that will be part of a Vietnam War Memorial in West Michigan is scheduled to be delivered to Veteran’s Park in Belding on Tuesday.
The Sentinel-Standard of Ionia reports the placement of the $11,000 stone from India that had a map of Vietnam etched into it last week is phase three of a six-phase plan for the memorial that is estimated to cost $165,000 to complete.
The plans for the completed memorial call for a wall with the names of the 2,654 Michigan veterans who were killed in Vietnam from 1959 to 1975 as well as 12 pillars to honor the men and women from Belding and Greenville who paid the ultimate price.
