IONIA, Mich. - A quick moving thunderstorm has caused some damage in the city of Ionia.

The storm moved through early Wednesday afternoon.

Ionia County dispatch tells FOX 17 that several trees and wires are down along M-21, also known as Lincoln Avenue, in the city of Ionia.  Trees are completely blocking M-21 at both Wall Street and Haynor Street.  The damage begins east of Johnson and extends to west of Stage.

Ionia neighbors like Zion United Methodist Church Rev. Cliff Allen told FOX 17 the storm moved quickly, but he's thankful everyone is okay: including his wife and grand children who were inside their parsonage as heavy rain and winds uprooted a large tree in their lawn.

“This happened during the time they [grandkids] were in the living room," said Allen. "My grandson’s two and he just told grandma, ‘I want to go home, I want to go home,’ and of course grandma was hysterical by then. But we have the kids with another family member and we will get through this and just thankful nobody got hurt.”

Police say they took 28 storm-related calls Wednesday, including calls about at least five homes with tree damage. They say no one was hurt.
