KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The bicyclist struck Wednesday night after a hit and run crash is paralyzed from the waist down, family members say.

Charles Driggers, 66, was critically injured after being hit while riding his bike on Cannonsburg Rd near Chauncey Ave. He was airlifted to Spectrum Health by Aero Med.

Charles’ son – Shawn Driggers – says his father is paralyzed from the waist down after suffering a spinal injury. Doctors don’t expect him to walk again.

Charles is Vietnam veteran, a father, and a grandfather. He’s also a triathlete and prostate cancer survivor.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Department reports that a suspect has been arrested on a felony charge related to the crash. That suspect is expected to be arraigned Friday.

Deputies say Charles Driggers remains in serious condition.
