KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A health advisory from The City of Kalamazoo Department of Public Services and Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department has been canceled.

The Kalamazoo River between Paterson Street Bridge and the D Avenue bridge had a health advisory afterover half a million gallons of partially treated sewage spilled into the river.

Officials say one of the pumps at the Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant malfunctioned Tuesday morning, allowing the wastewater to overflow into the river.

Tests were conducted on Tuesday to assess the claims and were submitted to the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department, who cancelled the health advisory as of Thursday.

All surface water activities are permitted to continue including swimming, wading, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. If you have any questions, you can contact the Department of Public Services at 269-337-8768.
