GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A Hudsonville man who owned and co-owned numerous Mexican restaurants has been sentenced to a year in prison for filing false tax returns.

Marco Cuellar, 37, of Hudsonville is also required to pay about $370,000 in restitution to the IRS in back taxes and penalties.

Cuellar pleaded guilty to filing false tax returns for 2008 through 2012.  The U.S. Attorney’s office says Cuellar took cash from the restaurants that were in Michigan and failed to report that income.

The U.S. Attorney says that Cuellar is a citizen of Mexico and is in the United States as a lawful permanent resident, but he also faces removal proceedings back to Mexico after serving his sentence.
