39th annual Hispanic Festival fills Calder Plaza

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — One of the many events happening this weekend in West Michigan is the 39th annual Hispanic Festival in Grand Rapids.

Sunday marks the final day for the festival at Calder Plaza which included futbol, shopping and lots of authentic food.

“Tacos, tamales, combo plates which includes a taco, tamale rice and beans that our most popular,” says Miguel Ochoa of A&L Restaurant.

All are signatures of the festival bringing people together from across West Michigan.

“It’s one of very few events that really tries to educate people about the Hispanic culture,” said Hispanic Center Vice President, Cesar Gonzaluz.

“We really try to make an effort to be able to show everybody the different cultures and the different foods, and music so people understand it’s not just always tacos it’s not just always certain things.”

Organizers said close to 500 kids filled the streets to participate in the annual Futsal Tournament.
