KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan football has pulled another scholarship surprise stunt, this time for redshirt sophomore tight end Odell Miller.
The Gull Lake High School grad was told by head coach P.J. Fleck that if he caught a punt during Tuesday's practice at Waldo Stadium, the team would be spared from extra conditioning drills. Miller caught one and the conditioning was called off. However, when Fleck gave Miller a small scrap of paper to read to the team that the coach claimed had the regiment he had planned the team to run through, Miller discovered instead that he had been granted a scholarship.
Western Michigan opens the 2016 season on Saturday at Northwestern.
