MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — The goal was to have 80 educators from schools within Muskegon County take part in the “be nice.” workshops by October 18, and that will now become a reality thanks to a $250,000 investment.
The “be nice.” campaign is a product of the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan, used to create positive change in everyone’s lives through simple daily actions.
The campaign was designed to prevent bullying and suicide through mental health education for elementary, middle and high school students. It is currently being used in over 100 schools across West Michigan and Ohio.
Seventeen local businesses and organizations in West Michigan donated the large sum of money to cover training and support for the next five years.
According to the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan, one in every five people will develop a mental health condition at some point in their lives. 50 percent of those develop by age 14.
