KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — Detectives in Kalamazoo County are taking another look at the 2012 death of 73-year-old Evelyn Weeks, saying now her death is considered suspicious.

Deputies say they suspected foul play could be involved when they decided to exhume her body this past January. Before then, her passing had been considered a natural death.

Her son, the former Sons of Malta president Joseph Weeks, was living with her at the time of her death. He says he left for a motorcycle ride and when he returned, found her not breathing.

Joseph Weeks was released from jail recently after embezzling thousands of dollars from a charity established to help the family of Eric Zapata, a Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer who was killed in the line of duty.

Undersheriff Matyas says his mother’s death investigation is ongoing.
