19th annual West Michigan ‘Race for the Cure’ kicks off in GR

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The rain didn’t stop thousands of participants from taking part in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at Ah-Nab-Awen Park Saturday.

The race honors those who lost their lives to breast cancer and celebrates survivors, fighters and co-survivors.

Proceeds raised help to provide education about breast cancer, positive awareness and the importance of the early detection.

Money raised through the Susan G. Komen Michigan foundation stays in Michigan to fund lifesaving programs and research.

The goal for the Grand Rapids race was to raise $100,000. At last check, nearly $40,000 had been raised.
