Sad story, and my heart goes out to the family. I think many people – adults as well as children and teens – don’t realize that it’s not just common sense but the law to have a lifejacket on board any type of watercraft for each person it is carrying. I think some people have the erroneous perception that if a craft doesn’t have a motor, you’re not required to have a lifejacket. I would support spending some public money on public service announcements about this in Spring and early Summer. I wonder how many lives a few billboards could save.
