COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two 15-year-olds from South Haven have been arrested after a series of online threats.

The teens were allegedly using a clown profile on Facebook to threaten students.  In Covert, police say one of the teens threatened to shoot up the school on Monday.

“This behavior is unacceptable,” said Covert Township Police Chief Jay Allen. “It was scaring people and is really a public safety issue.”

Covert Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bobbi Morehead was not amused by the recent clown threats made on Facebook.

“This is not a laughing matter,” Says Dr. Bobbi Morehead, superintendent of Covert public schools. “This clown business is not funny.”

The threats are also alarming students.

“It was someone threatening to shoot up the school. So that’s kind of scary.” said Cheyenne Register, a ninth grader at Covert public schools.

A principal with Covert schools says they want to protect students while helping to teach them right from wrong.

“Help them to be mindful, to be responsible with the social media. And to watch what they say because it represents them,” said Yolanda Brunt, building principal at Covert schools.

Police say they will prosecute the teens responsible to the fullest extent, which could mean felony charges.
