WEST MICHIGAN — After an unseasonably warm night with lows staying in the 60s, we’re expecting a warm afternoon. Highs should top out in the 70s, but the warmth won’t last. A strong cold front is on the way, and should arrive by mid-afternoon across most of the FOX 17 viewing area. Here’s a look at where the front is as of this early morning writing:

A very strong temperature contrast is associated with this front. It’s currently in the 60s across most of the state (including much of the U.P.) as of this early morning writing, but temperatures drop off quickly to the west of this cold front:

A few showers and storms are possible this afternoon as this front moves through, but Future Track HD suggests coverage will be very widely scattered:

So although there is a slight chance of rain late this morning and this afternoon, the main story of the day will be falling late afternoon temperatures. The cooling trend will continue into Saturday as well, with highs only in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Although this will feel chilly compared to the warm weather we’ve had recently, these temperatures are not that far below our average high of 64° for this time of year. When one considers this fact and the abundant sunshine we’re expecting, it actually looks like a pretty nice weekend. Enjoy!
