Police warn of potential phone scams in West Michigan

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — Authorities in Calhoun County are warning residents of a potential phone scammer that is pretending to be a representative from the power company.

The caller informs the victim their electricity will be shut off if their outstanding balance isn’t paid, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Police are warning of another scam where victims answer a computer service advertisement. They’re told they’ve due for a refund due to a clerical error in an attempt to obtain bank account information.

Police advise to not answer these calls or provide personal information.
