KALAMAZOO, Mich.– The Kalamazoo Michigan Sheriff’s Mounted Division attended the North American Police Equestrian Council’s week of training in September and were awarded the highest honors.

The training took place in Kingston, Ontario from September 12-18. Division members also took part in the 32nd annual Nation Mounted Police Colloquium at the Kentucky Horse Park that took place form September 16-30.

The events were able to provide opportunities for law enforcement officers across the U.S. to bring a horse and rider together to train both the officer and the horse to test their skills. After a week, the horse and officer teams were tested in an obstacle course.

Members of the Kalamazoo Michigan Sheriff’s Mounted Division placed first at both the Police Equestrian Council and National Police Colloquium events.

Deputy Grant Solomon and his teammate Walker were placed first at the North American Equestrian Council training and competition earlier in September in Ontario, and Deputy Pam Weston and her teammate Pickle were placed first at the National Police Colloquium in Kentucky in late September.

The Kalamazoo Mounted Division also won first, second and third place at the national police colloquium. 11 members from the unit were in attendance.
