LUDINGTON, Mich. -- Jurors left the Mason County Courthouse at 5:45 Thursday afternoon. For the second day, the group headed home without reaching a verdict.

They're trying to determine if Sean Phillips killed his daughter Katherine "Baby Kate" Phillips. The jury is weighing second degree murder, manslaughter, or acquittal.

Baby Kate disappeared in Ludington on June 29, 2011, after her father drove off with her. The four-month-old hasn't been seen since.

Phillips wrote a letter in prison to Kate's mother, Ariel Courtland, about leaving the infant in a "peaceful place." He hasn't said where that was.

Phillips is currently serving 10 to 15 years for unlawful imprisonment of Baby Kate.

Jury deliberations resume at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
