Pedestrian killed after being hit on 28th Street

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A 53-year-old man is dead after police say he walked into the path of an oncoming SUV driving on 28th Street on Saturday night.

The man was hit by the SUV shortly before 10 p.m. on 28th Street west of Eastern Avenue, according to a news release from the Grand Rapids Police Department.

Police said the man was walking in the roadway when he suddenly walked into the path of the oncoming vehicle traveling west on 28th Street. His name is not being released at this time pending notification of relatives.

The driver involved was not injured, according to police.
