GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A head coach has been named for the new Grand Rapids Football Club women’s team.

The team announced that Lewis Robinson will be running the club’s first team.Lewis Robinson

Robinson was the associate head coach of the men’s team during GRFC’s debut in the National Premier Soccer League this season, where the team captured  a conference championship and made it to the finals.

Robinson has won seven state championships at the youth level and a national championship with his Midwest United FC U-15 girls last summer.

“I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to lead GRFC women into their first season,” Robinson said in a press release. “The team will be a fantastic expansion for the club and a great step forward for West Michigan Soccer. We look forward to getting to work and putting together a quality team that that our GRFC community can enjoy watching and supporting!”

Club President Matt Roberts said that Robinson was at “the top of the list” when GRFC was considering to field a women’s team, because of his track record as a youth coach and how he’s developed some of the best female players in the area.

The GRFC women’s team is expected to take the field in 2017.

Details about the team’s home field and schedule will be released at a later date.
