GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Big laughs could soon be coming to Grand Rapids as an improv comedy club is looking to set up shop.

A Kickstarter campaign called The Comedy Project is looking to open a diverse, eclectic atmosphere for aspiring comedians looking to learn the art of sketch and improv comedy. The project is spearheaded by professional comedians Ben Wilke and Joe Anderson, who've been performing comedy around the country for the last 20 years.

"We're looking to build a community and bring people that are already funny in G.R., already doing sketch comedy, who want to hone their talent and give them a stage and a community here in Grand Rapids," said Wilke.

The Comedy Project will offer scheduled performance shows and improv classes, teaching sketch writing and the tips and tricks behind comedy.

"It’s not going to be a stand-up club, it’s going to be an improv and sketch theater that's more theatrical in nature," Anderson said.

The team is now asking for your help to make their dream come true through their Kickstarter campaign. The comedians have one week to raise $15,000, and each person who donates to the cause will receive things like performance tickets, shirts, hoodies, etc. For $750 dollars you can even get your name inscribed on the bathroom wall.

"You're buying a piece of the theater, the Kickstarter is about getting people involved and feeling like once this opens they are already part of it," said Wilke.

The team is partnering withPitstop BBQ and Sweetie-licious Bakery Cafe.
