Victim identified in Newaygo County shooting; suspect charged

NEWAYGO COUNTY, Mich. — The man who was shot and killed Nov. 2 in Lilley Township has been identified by officials as 55-year-old Timothy Shoemaker of Kentwood.

Shoemaker was found dead at about 11 p.m. Nov. 2 on W. Cleveland Drive.

Jason Douglas Verhulst, 41, of Wyoming, was charged Nov. 3 with first-degree murder and felony firearms in connection with the shooting.

He is currently being held in the Newaygo County Jail without bond.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the shooting to contact the sheriff’s office at 231-689-7303.
