ALBION, Mich. – Two people have been arrested for breaking into cars and vandalizing buildings in Albion.

Albion Public Safety officers say their break came Wednesday evening after Albion College Campus Safety officers spotted two people going through vehicles on campus.  The suspects ran, but one was caught shortly thereafter and the second was taken into custody on Thursday.

Investigators believe that the two are responsible for spray painting an empty downtown building with swastikas earlier this week.  Their names have not yet been released.

Anyone with more details should call the department at 517-629-7824 or Silent Observer at 517-629-2700.

The word swastika comes from the Sanskrit svastika, which means “good fortune” or “well-being.” The motif (a hooked cross) appears to have first been used in Neolithic Eurasia, perhaps representing the movement of the sun through the sky. To this day it is a sacred symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Odinism.
