PULLMAN, Mich. -- A pair of businesses in Allegan County recently became victims of theft. Police say someone cut into heavy duty wire and stole it for the copper inside.

Investigators say about $15,000 worth of wire was taken from R. Smith & Sons and Aggregate Industries.

Both police and the business owners want to catch those responsible, because what they are doing is not just illegal, it could also be deadly.

Trevor Smith with R. Smith and Sons tells FOX 17 these thefts are dangerous: The thieves could be cutting into live wires that carry 480 volts of electricity.

"The minute you tap into that live wire, there will be a fatality," Smith said.

Those responsible for the theft could face felony charges.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call the Allegan County Sheriff's Office at 269-686-4705.
