OTSEGO, Mich. — Several cats and at least one dog were killed after a house fire in Otsego Wednesday afternoon.

Otsego firefighters say they arrived to a home in the 400 block of West Franklin Street around 4:45 p.m. They report seeing heavy smoke and flames coming out of a broken window and the sides of the house. The search for the source of the fire was obstructed by several of large storage totes and other items piled inside, however firefighters were able to put it out.

Nobody died, but several cats and at least a dog were found to have been killed either from smoke inhalation or the heat. Multiple other dead cats were found elsewhere in the house, but police say they were dead for a while.

The fire is still under investigation by the fire department. The living conditions for the animals was turned over to the Otsego police for investigation.
