GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Knights of Columbus handed out winter coats to at least 500 children on Black Friday.

"This year I ordered 500 coats, we're just about doubling every year, and we've been doing this for 4 years now (in West Michigan)," says Jim Uzarski, a trustee with the Knights of Columbus.

The Knights of Columbus' Coats for Kids program has given away more than 370,000 coats to children in the United States and Canada since 2009.

"You should see the expressions on their face, it's just like Christmas, before Christmas, getting something they've never had," Uzarski says.

The Coats for Kids program allows councils across North America the opportunity to purchase new winter coats for children at a discount and to distribute them to children in need in their local communities.
