Team effort leads Pewamo-Westphalia to state championship

DETROIT — Senior Quarterback Ryan Smith rand for81 yard and a touchdown and junior Jimmy Lehman threw for 127 yards and 2 scores as Pewamo-Westphalia beat Detroit Loyola 28-14 to win the division 7 state championship.

"These kids are proof that if you work hard and do the right things good things happen, last year we came up just short and they absolutely dedicated themselves to the weight room and every kind of off season conditioning we had, we are proof that if you work hard your goal can be acheived" head coach Jeremy Miller said.

Senior running back Jared Smith who came in averaging over 200 yards rushing peg game was held to 48 yards on 20 carries.

"The way they were keying on me it opened up things for the rest of the team, we have so many tremendous athletes on the team everbody was just doing theie part and that is one of the biggest thing for our team, we have so many guys that can step up" Jared Smith said.

The Pirates defense held Loyola to 186 yards of total offense.
