Kalamazoo police search for driver who hit light pole, closing roadway

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is investigating after a car crashed into a light pole on South Westnedge avenue, causing the pole to fall down in the street.

It happened at the intersection of West Michigan avenue and South Westnedge avenue around 4:24 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies say South Westnedge avenue was closed from West Michigan avenue to Academy street briefly until Consumers Energy crews could remove the down power line.

The at-fault driver fled the scene on foot and has not yet been located.

Police are still investigating the incident. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at (269) 337-8994 or Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100.
