GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Police say an unlicensed 17-year-old driver is to blame for a three-vehicle crash that shut down a busy stretch of 28th Street on Sunday.

The crash happened around noon when a vehicle headed west on 28th Street, east of Breton, was attempting to turn into a parking lot from the left turn lane. That vehicle was rear-ended, according to a release from the Grand Rapids Police Department.

The impact of the crash sent the vehicle that had been rear-ended into the path of oncoming traffic where it was hit by another vehicle driving east on 28th Street, police said.

Four people were taken to the hospital but investigators say they were not seriously hurt.

The 17-year-old unlicensed driver is listed at fault in the crash, the release said.
