Hospital worker saves $5,000 to open free toy store for sick kids

OAK LAWN, Ill. -- An Illinois woman who sees sick children at her job nearly every day is doing all she can to help them feel better during the holidays.

Jessie Tendayi, a food service aide at Chicago's Trinity Hospital, continued her generosity in 2016 by delivering toys to young hospital patients in Oak Lawn, Illinois, Tuesday.

She says she spent $5,000 on 1,000 toys this year to stock her free toy store.

Tendayi began the gift-giving campaign in 2009 with 100 toys.

This year, she's delivering 10 times as many.

Tendayi says she saves money from her paycheck - and sometimes pick ups extra shifts - to fund her annual, one-woman present drive.
