WEST MICHIGAN — The coldest air of the season is on its way into the FOX 17 viewing area later today and tonight, courtesy of an Arctic cold front.

Although this air will also be extremely dry, we are still expecting lake effect snow and blowing snow.  There won't be a lot of snow along the front itself as it passes, but lake effect will continue to fall behind the front later today and tonight. In fact, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of the FOX 17 viewing area.

Snow amounts will generally be in the 1 to 2 inch range along and east of US-131. West of there, totals will generally be in the 2 to 4 inch range with a few isolated 5 inch totals possible by tomorrow morning:

Lake effect snow showers will still be possible tomorrow, but they will be lighter and more widely scattered.

Our attention will then turn to an area of low pressure passing just to our south Friday night into Saturday. This low will likely bring widespread snow to the area, with several inches of accumulation likely.

Behind this low, more cold air will move into the area for the second part of the weekend and early next week.
