SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A 26-year-old father died after a tooth infection spread to his lungs, the man's grieving wife told KTXL.

Vadim Kondratyuk Anatoliyevich, a truck driver, complained of a toothache when he left Truckee for New York two weeks ago, according to the report.

During the trip, he stopped in Oklahoma and visited a dentist, who cleaned the infected tooth and prescribed antibiotics, according to his widow, Nataliya. His condition improved initially, but she told KTXL the infection worsened and his mouth swelled up.

Eventually, Kondratyuk Anatoliyevich became too weak to drive, so his brother drove to New York to drive him home. They made it to Utah before checking into a hospital.

Four days later, Nataliya said she received devastating news from a doctor about her husband's condition.

"The doctor said, 'Tonight is the night he's going to die, because we did everything we can and nothing seems to work.' It's just the bacteria and the infection keeps growing to his lungs and they can't clean it out," she told the station, wiping away tears.

Nataliya made it out to the hospital and was by her husband's side when he died on Jan. 30, according to a GoFundMe page set up for the family.

She said that her husband had diabetes, but was otherwise healthy.

"I don't think you could find a better husband. I thank everybody for his prayers, for his brother, for his friend that dropped me off over there," Nataliya said. "I know he's in heaven. He's a happy person right now. He's going to be my angel for the rest of my life and he's going to help me through this whole time without a dad and without a husband."

The couple had been together for four years; they had two young daughters together.

The GoFundMe page was set up to help pay the costs of transporting Kondratyuk Anatoliyevich's body back to California, the funeral and to help the family financially. As of Tuesday morning, it had raised nearly $85,000.

My God, a husband and father, only 26 years old died, and this nasty, snarky comment is the only thing you can post? You are a heartless bitch!

    • Shawn Lewis

Little Mary, that was stupid, like you. You have told the world just how stupid, insensitive, corrupt, and horrible you really are. Karma will sew your mouth shut, make the pain great and keep your head under water. IT COSTS NOTHING TO BE KIND, BUT EVERYTHING TO BE UNKIND!! APPARENTLY YOU ARE IN LEAGUE WITH HATE. So, in “kind” to your way of thinking, you, little Mary , are nothing more than an ugly disgusting CUNT!

      • naviofadonai

You call her stupid, and insensitive and horrible, yet you imply that you will enjoy seeing her in pain, you say it costs nothing to be kind but everything to be unkind, which is exactly what you’ve written here, and you claim she’s in league with hate, yet you’re the one filled with unjust rage. And you call her an ugly, disgusting cunt?

Kill yourself. You are scum of the earth, and should be purged from existence. Hypocrites like you belong in hell.

    • Dr. Frederick Taylor

You are a mean, ignorant moron. What’s the basis of your statement saying “imported pathogens”? I very much doubt you know ANYTHING about immunology and the spread of disease. But perhaps your fucked up personality will attract your fantasy pathogens to your own body and destroy you too.

As for your ICE comment, Trump’s statement was directed at career politicians and lobbyists, not salaried employees. Yet he is appointing more insiders than any president in modern history. He regularly blasted Wall Street investment banks, mostly because none of them would do business with Trump, given his history of filing bankruptcy, screwing his own employees and not repaying debts. As president, he has appointed more rich white investment bankers — particularly from Goldman Sachs, whom he attacked most as candidate — to his administration than any president in modern history.

But please keep posting because each time you do you further expose just how ignorant, insensitive and stupid you really are.

      • Little Mary

Well, Freddy, the whole point of the post was to point out that unfettered immigration allows disease, like zika, ebola, and SARS, to enter the country and that poor bastard paid for it.

        • Nasty Gal

This man did not die from zika, ebola or SARS (which btw, there hasn’t been a case of in the US for at least two years). So what’s your point Mary? Why bring politics into this when they have no place here. Just let this family mourn dammit!

        • Orcasite

Aggressively ignorant and subhuman in empathy levels. Not sure why you think that regular Americans don’t carry bacteria. And you don’t know whether this man was born here–he could well have been. You seem to be operating under the mistaken belief that you are somehow better than this family. Not likely.

          • Little Mary

Orca, you’re incredibly thick. Vadim might still be alive if all of the diseases from the Third World weren’t flowing into this country with illegals. THEY DON’T IMMUNIZE.

        • Little Mary's Nonexistent Savior

Awww Little Mary thinks she understands the germ theory. Little Mary is a certified idiot. Even a germaphobe can’t find a more absurd way to think. Doctors will be swarming your little cranial compartment one day, only to find that nothing can save you from your idiocy.

        • Anna Bolic

Looks like Little Mary doesn’t know the difference between a communicable disease and an opportunistic infection. It was A TOOTH INFECTION, Mary. Not something you catch from someone else..

    • Anna Bolic

Do you know the difference between communicable diseases and opportunistic infections, Mary? A bacterial tooth infection is the latter. It’s not something you catch. Most tooth infections are caused by dental hygiene issues that create the conditions for normally harmless bacteria in the environment, to grow and multiply and become a problem.

A tooth infection has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with anything that immigrants bring anywhere. Regardless of the validity of your point in other contexts, your comment was wildly inappropriate for THIS article.

    • Allison Moss-Fritch

NO, Mary, easy to claim that, but we are home growing pathogens which are quite capable of killing ANYONE who obtains them…and those pathogens grow quite nicely in your refrigerator or kitchen counters.
This man was healthy before ….so he was NOT carrying the pathogen which killed him. He found it as you might, just in the normal course of living.

  • Roberta Surprenant

gee, I was able to return my brother’s ashes from east coast to California for $1000 and the price of a plane ticket.
widow and kids will need that extra 84K to transition to new life, hell of a way to get it though

  • Just Saying

Should have checked into hospital instead of trying to drive 4 days to California. Maybe he had Obamacare and couldn’t find a doctor to treat him in New York.

    • Anna Bolic

Sued for what? Do you have evidence of malpractice?
He cleaned the infection and prescribed an antibiotic. Some antibiotics stop working, and when that happens, another one should be prescribed right away. The gentleman in this article sadly — for any number of reasons — didn’t do anything about the recurrence until it was too late. That’s not the dentist’s fault.

    • Katie Benson

Right I think he should be investigated at least. It seems the patients condition worsened after the visit. Is his dental office sanitary? Does he have the right licensing? Did he follow the right procedure? Should he tooth have been pulled?

  • Dorothy

My thoughts and prayers are with the heartbroken widow and her two darling daughters. Since I know of no other way of helping her family I will donate to GFM, in hopes it might alleviate some of her worry.
Teeth can be dangerous, I nearly died of sepsis from an extracted tooth.
Regarding those who wish to make political comments please refer to a political site. We should use this site to message a grieving young woman and her children.

  • cr_chris

And people blame the media for us being divided… somehow partisan BS rhetoric makes its way into everything these days, even heart-breaking articles like this. Decency and human kindness are obviously things of the past.

  • Turtlemagic58

Okay. Why are we feeding the Troll? Little Mary is a paid Troll; probably male; needed a second job; gets paid by the outraged response. Stop feeding the Trolls!!!!!
