KALAMAZOO, Mich. —  Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers arrested one male suspect who allegedly attempted to break into a home and set a porch on fire Tuesday evening.

It happened around 6:45 p.m. in the 3400 block of Knox Street. Police say that three males who knew the resident attempted to get inside the house. One of them was armed with a knife and tried to get in through the back door.

The resident wasn’t home at the time, but police say a guest at the house barricaded the door to prevent the suspects from getting in. Then, police say the suspects started a fire on the back porch. The fire was later extinguished by someone using a fire hose.

The suspects made their way to the front and tried to get in through there. At that point, the guest in the house ran out the back and called police.

Nobody was hurt. According to police, the home was targeted because of a fight between the suspects and a resident.

Officers spotted the suspect’s black sedan near Howard Street and Crosstown Parkway, and conducted a traffic spot.  There was three males in the vehicle.

After a search of the sedan, officers discovered evidence connecting one of the occupants to the home invasion and arson. They also found several ounces of marijuana in the vehicle.

A 26-year-old was arrested on several charges, but the investigation into the identities of the other two suspects is ongoing

Police are looking for the three men, saying they drove away in a black Ford Taurus. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 269-337-8994 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
