ALLEGAN, Mich. – A former Grand Rapids resident who now lives in North Carolina has been charged with Operating While Intoxicated by Drugs Causing Death in a fatal crash in Wayland in March.

Wayland – March 19, 2017

Alyssa Kay Stark, 20, was arraigned Monday in Allegan County.  She is also charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury.

Deputies say Stark was driving with three friends on southbound US-131 about 2:40am on March 19, when she lost control and slid into the ditch. The vehicle went through a fence and into another ditch running alongside 12th Street and then rolled over.  A 15-year-old girl who was riding in the back seat, Alexis Danielle Brown-Johnson of Grand Rapids, was ejected from the vehicle and killed. Two others in the vehicle, a 19-year-old from Kentwood and an 18-year-old from Grand Rapids, suffered minor injuries.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s office says that Stark was under the influence of marijuana.

Per the previous comments; alcohol should not be legal either…but it is. I prefer to not take my chances with anyone under the influence, but I would much rather drive down any road, highway, or expressway with a bunch of potheads out there than drinkers anyday.

      We tried prohibition……

You shouldn’t have to, “take your chances” with either. The problem with marijuana is people think it’s harmless. It’s not.

….it amazes me how stupid uninformed keyboard warriors are. Marijuana had no deciding factors in this accident and you’re compleatly stupid if you think it did. They may have been under the influence but I bet a million dollars they were doing more than just smoking weed to loose control of a vehicle that badly.

Agreed this girl was messed up it wasn’t the weed. This little girl was someone I loved deeply so much hurts so bad she’s gone.
