MARSHALL, Mich. — A 32-year-old man and a neighbor were stabbed during a domestic dispute in Marshall on Wednesday, and police say the man's stepfather is facing charges for the attack.

Police were called to the 600 block of West Mansion at about 4:30 p.m. There they found three people lying on the kitchen floor unresponsive.

"He was drinking, not just even that, he got full of it," said Willis Walker, brother-in-law to the suspect, identified by family as Tom Dyer. "He took it in his hands to hurt people."

The family said the stepson fought back during the attack. However he still suffered serious injuries and the 34-year-old neighbor suffered life-threatening stab wounds. Both were taken to area hospitals for treatment.  The woman was transferred later to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.

"She’s is in the hospital now on life support," said Walker. "We’re hoping that she’ll pull through."

The suspect also had facial and head injuries , according to police.  He was taken to the hospital and immediately transported to Calhoun County jail once he was released. Police said he is facing charges of aggravated assault, attempting to do bodily harm and being a repeat offender.

"The pain that she’s probably feeling right now, you know, that’s her only son," said Willis about the mother who also suffered a seizure because of the trauma.  "For her husband to do some stuff like that you know it’s sad. Not just sad but it’s uncalled for."

Police say the incident began when the parties involved started arguing over missing or stolen tools.  They say that all three people knew each other and have had previous contact with the Marshall Police Department.

"He don’t need to be here no more," said Walker. "They need to put him where he belongs.  He was never in his right mind in the first place."
