MUSKEGON, Mich. - Leaders in Muskegon are looking to 'shatter myths' when it comes to substance abuse, alerting parents and students to the danger of drugs at a community event hosted at Muskegon Community College.
Tuesday's event was led by Muskegon County Prosecutor D.J. Hilson and two recovering addicts, Kayleigh Mckenna and Daniel Nelson.  The talk featured real stories of tragedy, hope, and addiction and was broadcast live for all Muskegon County students 7th-12th grade.
Hilson said the event is in response to the increasing number of drug overdoses in Muskegon County, up 511% since the year 2000.
"As a community, if we have these straightforward conversations, we find solutions," Hilson said. "We put ourselves one step closer to either pushing it out of Muskegon Co. or more importantly, we save lives."

I read through your article and found it to be amazing. Myths like this tend to be so damaging because they create negative effects in those trying to recover. I’m really happy that this article was posted as I’m doing research on the many myths surrounding rehab and addiction.

Should anyone else be interested to see how this would help others here’s the page I looked at https://www.pbinstitute.com/rehab-myths/

I hope this can assist with someone if they are struggling with coming to terms with addiction and rehab.

Such a great show. I really appreciate these efforts taken by Muskegon country’s media to prevent and decrease prevailing drug addiction and abbuse. By conducting these type of talkshows is the only way to shatter those myths and getting to the root cause of addictions.
