WYOMING, Mich. -- A suspect in a "domestic situation" was shot by a Wyoming police officer Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at the Ramblewood Apartments in the 4100 block of Crooked Tree Avenue SW at about 3:15 a.m.

Police say they were called to the scene on reports of an argument inside an apartment.  The three responding officers came across an armed person inside the apartment and one of the officers fired a shot, hitting him.  Police say they then rendered aid to the suspect and he was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Nearby apartments were evacuated for a short time.  No one else was injured.

Police say that a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Police say they were called to the same apartment building at about 2:00 a.m. on reports of a person banging loudly on a door, possibly trying to break in. Nothing was found when they arrived at the scene.

The officer who fired the shot has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is department policy. The Kent County Sheriff is investigating and the Kent County Prosecutor will review the case.
