ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Local law enforcement paying it forward Saturday all in effort to strengthen community relations.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office partnered with Sprinkles Donut Shop in Algoma Township to host a 'Donut with a Deputy Event.'

A handful of deputies handed out sweet treats and talked with members of the community.

All you had to do to attend was bring a new and unwrapped toy to donate to someone in need.

In turn, the toys will be given to North Kent connect which will then pass the toys to kids in need throughout the county.

"Everyone of these events has been successful. Everytime we try to do something a little bit different, we brought some of canine officers in and we always get a big crowd," said Deputy Michael Allen. " Even when we have bad weather people still want to show up, they want to support the Sheriff's Department they want to support the community, so its always been good, always been a good turnout," he said.

This is just one of the community bonding events the department tries to do throughout the year.
