Update – January 3:

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Battle Creek Police have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a train Monday afternoon as Nicholas Jordan Wilson.

He was 33, and police say his last known address was in Irons, Michigan. However, he had been spending time in Battle Creek recently, according to Sergeant Todd Elliott.

He tells FOX 17 that Battle Creek Police are working with Canadian National Railway police and sharing information, while conducting separate investigations.

CN is based in Montreal.

Sergeant Elliott says the railroad gates were down and the lights were flashing when Wilson was fatally struck around 1:30 p.m. Monday, at the McCamly Street crossing. “There is no bell at that particular crossing. But all of the safety equipment was working.

“We don’t know why he tried to walk around the gates.”

Police say it may take a couple weeks for autopsy results to come back. And at least a month for toxicology results to return from the lab.
