GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A suspicious-looking device in a school locker caused a scare at a Grand Rapids school Thursday.

Students were evacuated from C.A. Frost Environmental Science Academy Middle High School in the 1400 block of Covell NW at about 11:30 a.m. after a student saw what they thought were "molotov cocktails" in a student's locker. Staff contacted police and removed the devices from the school.

The building was evacuated and students were taken to a nearby church.

Alicia Corbett, a 10th grader told FOX 17, "Everybody just started saying, 'It was a bomb threat. It was a bomb threat.' Everybody started getting scared. Everybody started crying. We were just amazed. Like, we never thought something like this would happen."

Her mother Angela Feldman said, "I was pretty scared with all the things that's going on everywhere else. I didn't really know what to think."

Investigators determined in about an hour that the devices were not real and were part of a World War I class project. The student whose locker contained the project was out sick Thursday.

Students were returned to the school, where parents were able to pick them up.

We'll have more details when they become available.
